Te Tiriti o Waitangi is to be taken off the school curriculum, and schools will have the option whether or not to teach te reo Māori, under the draft curriculum recently drawn up by Ministry of Education.

I've found a Waikato University website with 19th century Māori newspapers online. The transcription of the first page of the first paper lacks punctuation, but each page includes a link to a photo of the page, and the punctuation can be copied (manually) from that. SO, I can start compiling a concordance.

Just updated my interest list, and noticed that LJ alphabetizes ā after the non-macroned vowels, and presumably after the rest of the alphabet. Must think up some interests with æ, ç, ð, µ, ñ, ø, ß or þ in them. Ælfric, Óðinn, Þórr... Old English glossaries alphabetize æ as ae, and put þ and ð together as one letter after t. And English. In fact, nearly half the books I bought were in English. One book I didn't pick up was an oldish (1960s or 70s) Māori dictionary by Bruce Biggs. This was, curiously enough, in the foreign languages section, a designation to which te reo Māori has less claim than English.
